‘Watershed’ moment as charity appoints first alum chief
The National Youth Choir of Scotland has appointed Kenneth Boyd as its first alumnus chief executive.
Boyd, who began touring with the choir at the age of 17 in 2003, will step into the chief executive role on 21 April.
He takes the reins from the charity’s interim chief executive, Sarah Loveday. The charity has been without a permanent chief executive for a year, but was unable to give information about who held the role previously.
Boyd has been a senior producer for the NYCOS since 2021, before which he was a deputy company manager at the Scottish Opera for four years, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He was also a development manager at the Scottish Ensemble for a year, his profile shows.
The charity said Boyd would take over at a “significant juncture” for the organisation, which recently secured further multi-year funding from the grantmaker Creative Scotland.
The charity said this funding “gives us permission to take stock on how far we’ve come and set a course for where we’re going”.
Christopher Bell, founder and artistic director of the choir, said: “NYCOS is always busy, which is why we are fortunate to have someone of Kenneth’s calibre at the helm.
“This truly is a watershed appointment – a few decades in the making, but well worth the wait.
"Kenneth has been a NYCOS performer, a NYCOS producer and a proud NYCOS parent; having excelled on stage and backstage we are delighted he has agreed to join our leadership team front of house.”
