Community organisations invited to apply for grants of up to £30,000

The Leeds Building Society has offered a share of £150,000 in unrestricted grant funding to non-profits supporting vulnerable people through housing and communities.

The building society has invited UK-based community organisations to apply for one-off grants of up to £30,000 as part of its 150-year anniversary celebrations.

Applications must align with the funder’s aim of supporting vulnerable people to find a place to belong through housing and their communities.

To be eligible, applicants must be a non-profit organisation, including but not limited to registered charities, community interest organisations, community benefit societies and community interest companies.

The building society will consider whether applicants are looking at a solution-focused way of addressing social issues, their understanding of their identified beneficiaries and whether they have a measurable way of demonstrating impact.

It will also consider whether applicants have a strong track record of delivering outcomes.

Applicants must have a governing document and organisational bank account and have an annual turnover of £5m or less.

The building society said it would not fund political organisations, organisations based outside of or doing work outside of the UK, or charities that are currently in receipt of a grant from the Leeds Building Society or the Leeds Building Society Foundation.

They must also be able to provide a full year’s audited or independently examined accounts.

Applications must be submitted by 16 May, with funding decisions to be made in June.

Payments will be made from September and grantees will be expected to submit a short impact report in September next year.

To apply, interested organisations must email fund150@leedsbuildingsociety.co.uk to request a copy of the application guidance.

Wendy Carter, responsible business lead at Leeds Building Society, said: “We’re pleased to be able to offer this funding and celebrate our mutual roots by giving back to communities and empowering people across the UK into safe and secure housing.

“Last year, we donated over £1m to charities in support of our purpose of putting home ownership within reach of more people, and we’re continuing to put our words into action by encouraging charities to apply for this funding in celebration of our milestone anniversary.”
